In carrying out its mission and purpose, the SSCF has awarded over $1,000,000 to SSC students since 1989. In 2009, the Foundation awarded 184 for $120,785. With less State Financial Aid available and the rising cost of tuition, the SSCF Board of Directors remains committed to increasing the number of scholarships in the years ahead. Scholarships are awarded at the Academic Achievement Reception every May for the following summer, fall, and spring semesters.
In addition to traditional scholarships, the Foundation established the Carol Manning Student Assistance Fund in 2001 to help the College’s neediest students continue pursuing their education with financial assistance for books, tuition and other special needs. To date, $120,000 has been awarded to 450 needy students. The Carol Manning Student Assistance Fund is awarded during registration prior to each fall and spring semester.
The Foundation has further assisted the College with special technology and student life projects. Through the years, the SSCF has provided funding for state-of-the-art facilities such as the Lee E. Dulgar Gallery, the Sheldon L. Siegel Memorial Smart Classroom, a Multi-Media Lab, and a new Financial Aid Office. The Foundation has also supported the Fine & Performing Arts of the College by regularly updating equipment as well as underwriting cultural events such as High School Band Tours and Musicals.
