SOUTH HOLLAND, IL The Art & Design Department of South Suburban College is showcasing a new art exhibition by Melissa Washburn is the Lee E. Dulgar Gallery. The exhibit, entitled "Extraordinary Creatures" is on display through the closing reception on August 31st at 1:00 p.m.
The paintings and mixed media works in the exhibit explore themes of motherhood and its emotions and anxieties through imagery such as dolls, fairy tales, and the female figure. Washburn has a BFA in painting and printmaking from Binghamton University (SUNY) and an MA in Arts Administration from Indiana University Bloomington. She has worked in museum marketing and as a graphic designer, as well as as an art instructor in Michigan City's Safe Harbor after school program.
The public is cordially invited to attend exhibitions and the artist receptions at no charge. The Lee E. Dulgar Gallery is conveniently located on the first floor of the Main Campus, near the Atrium. The galleries are supported in part by the South Suburban College Foundation.
Regular gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m., and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. The galleries are closed on weekends and holidays. Call 708-596-2000 x2445 or email jkirkpatrick@ssc.edu for more information.
