GED-i (GED Illinois Online)

PLEASE NOTE: Classes will begin again in the Fall for ESL, ABE/ASE, at the Main Campus for ABE/ASE day and evening and daytime at the UCC, for ESL at the Main Campus day and evening. Other sites may be opening depending upon funding.


Are you unable to attend classes on a regular basis? Does your schedule prevent you from making a “time” commitment? Then GED-i might be for YOU!

South Suburban College’s GED-i/GED Illinois Online is a stand alone Adult Secondary Education (ASE)/GED® preparation program. There are no face-to-face classes. All work is completed online though the GED-i (GED Illinois Online Program) web site and is supervised by an ASE instructor from the Community Education Department at SSC.

Consideration Guidelines for Online Instruction

  1. Students will score at or above the 9th grade level in reading and 7th grade in math as determined by the Test of Adult Education (TABE) test.
  2. Students must be able to attend an initial meeting at the SSC Main Campus (located at 15800 S. State St., South Holland, Illinois) during the registration period in order to register, participate in an interview, and complete placement testing.
  3. Students must attend an additional face-to-face orientation immediately following the placement test.
  4. A meeting may be scheduled by request of the teacher to establish short-term and long-term goals for completion of the GED-i Online instruction.
  5. Student must e-mail their instructor at a minimum of twice a week to advise progress and receive tutoring as needed.
  6. One-on-one in person meetings will be necessary periodically to complete the program (post testing, GED practice test, lesson review, goal setting, etc.
  7. Illinois residents are required to satisfactorily pass an examination on American patriotism and the principles of representative government as found in the American Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States of America, and the Constitution of the State of Illinois, as well as on the proper use and display of the American Flag. A Constitution Study Guide is available online from Southwestern Illinois College.
All students must have reliable access to a computer (home, library, etc.).
