Men’s Basketball


The 2016-17 Men’s Basketball Team finished the season 23-12. The team again reached the Final Four at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament and taking 3rd place, ranking them the #3 best team in the NJCAA.

SSC’s Rasheide Bell played in the 2017 NJCAA All Star Game in Las Vegas, NV. and received the Leon Spencer Award for sportsmanship at the event. He will be playing at Kentucky Wesleyan next year.

Head Men’s Basketball Coach John Pigatti was named the recipient of the 2017 Jack Bennett Man of the Year Award, named in honor of former head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, for winning with integrity. Pigatti also was named Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Junior College Division II and Region IV-B Coach of the Year. This is Pigatti’s 8th Regional Coach of the Year Award in his 11 years at SSC.

The 2015-16 team finished the season with the best record in the nation and school history (34-3). The team finished 3rd place game at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, ranking them the #3 best team in the NJCAA.

Sophomore guard Jovan Mooring was recognized Tuesday as the 2015-16 Spalding® NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Player of the Year after having established himself as one of the country’s most prolific scorers. Mooring averaged 26.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.8 assist, and 3 steals per game during the 2015-16 season. He will play in the NJCAA National All Star Game Saturday, April 30th, at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

The Bulldogs have amassed a 313-55 record during Coach Pigatti’s eleven seasons at South Suburban College. They won the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2107 Region IV Championships and placed at the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.
