This program is designed for men and women who plan employment or promotion within a business which involves the marketing of fashion-oriented merchandise. For increased specialization, students can complete two marketing-management internship courses during the second year of study to gain on-the-job experience in marketing fashion merchandise. This program has been articulated with some area high schools. Recent high school graduates may have earned credit in this program though high school coursework.
What will I learn in class?
Courses for the program include Fashion merchandising, direct marketing, sales and management, as well as courses in accounting, computers, business law, and economics. In addition, you’ll focus on fashion history and design, evaluating fabrics, manufacturing and distribution sources, inventory control, visual fashion display, and the fundamentals of buying fashion goods for resale to the public.
- You’ll learn how to determine the demand for fashion products and services offered by a firm and its competitors and identify potential consumers.
- You’ll learn to develop pricing strategies with an eye toward maximizing a firm’s share of the market and ultimately, its profits.
- You’ll learn to identify and monitor trends that indicate the need for new products and services and assist in product development efforts.
The Retailing option provides an opportunity for increased specialization.
