The Illinois State Library (ISL), a division of the Office of the Secretary of State; using state funds designated for literacy, award Workplace Skills Enhancement grants to Illinois businesses that partner with adult educational providers. These grant funds are used to upgrade employees’ skills that are needed to efficiently and competently perform required job tasks. The training provided can include workplace math, reading, writing, and oral communication. English as a Second Language (ESL) is also included in the area of English language skills. Classes are conveniently held on-site for employees at their company location.
