Typically South Suburban College hires a number of adjunct faculty members each semester to teach a variety of courses. All MEDICAL ASSISTING courses

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The faculty must be credentialed in medical assisting by a credentialing organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and must have at minimum, a baccalaureate degree in an Allied Health related field.
  • Faculty must be knowledgeable in course content, as evidenced by education and/or experience, effective in directing and evaluating student learning and laboratory performance, and be prepared in educational theory and techniques.
  • Faculty must have teaching experience in postsecondary and/or vocational/technical education.
  • Knowledgeable of the Medical Assisting Educational Review Board (MAERB) standards and guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred in an Allied Health related field.
  • At least three 3-5 years experience in teaching on a college level affiliated with an accredited Medical Assisting program.
  • Experience with developing didactic and clinical outcomes/curricula on a program and course level.
  • Excellent technology and classroom management skills.
  • Knowledge of the Medical Assisting industry needs, which includes active participation in professional organizations.

All CODING SPECIALIST courses

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The faculty must be certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist Physician-based (CCS-P) and must have at minimum, a baccalaureate degree.
  • The faculty must have experience in curriculum development, instructional theory, evaluations, counseling of students, program management and other methods for obtaining student outcomes.
  • Knowledgeable of the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) and AHIMA standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred in HIT/HIM.
  • At least three 3-5 years experience in teaching on a college level affiliated with an accredited HIT program.
  • Experience with developing didactic and clinical outcomes/curricula on a program and course level.
  • Excellent technology and classroom management skills.
  • Knowledge of the HIT industry needs, which includes active participation in professional organizations.

All SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY courses

Minimum Qualifications: Masters in Speech Language Pathology.
Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience.

All BIOLOGY courses

Minimum Requirement: A Bachelors degree in any of the life sciences; a Master’s degree in Education or any of the life sciences.
Preferred Requirements: Master degree preferred. Teaching experience in a high school or community college setting; the ability to teach Microbiology, General Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology.

BLD 101 – Carpentry

Minimum Requirement: 5 years minimum experience in framing.
Preferred Requirement: B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 102 – Masonry

Minimum Requirement: 5 years minimum experience in concrete and brick work.
Preferred Requirement: B.S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 103 – Home Energy Dynamics

Minimum Requirement: 1-3 years minimum experience in Building Science with some experience in Energy Auditing procedures.
Preferred Requirement: B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 105 – Print Reading

Minimum Requirement: 3 years minimum experience.
Preferred Requirement: B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 140 – HVACR I

Minimum Requirement: 5 years minimum experience in HVACR installation and repair.  Must be EPA certified.
Preferred Requirement: B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 142 – Duct Fabrication and Installation

Minimum Requirement: 5 years minimum experience in duct fabrication and installation.
Preferred Requirement: B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 203 – Estimating

Minimum Requirement: 5 years minimum experience in construction materials estimating.
Preferred Requirement: B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 206 – Materials & Methods IV – Electrical (Residential Wiring)

Minimum Requirement: 5 years residential wiring experience. Must be a licensed electrician in Illinois.
Preferred Requirement: B. S. and 5 years teaching experience in residential wiring. Must be a licensed electrician in Illinois.

All Building Code Classes

Minimum Requirement: ICC certification in field that you are applying for, and 5 years Code Enforcement experience.
Preferred Requirement: B. S. and 5 years teaching experience. Must have ICC certifications.

BCD 106 – Mechanical Inspections

Minimum Requirement: Must be ICC certified in Mechanical Inspections.
Preferred Requirement: B. S. and 5 years teaching experience. Must have ICC certification in Mechanical Inspections.

Minimum Requirement: Minimum A.S. in Court Reporting

Preferred Requirement: 2+ years of teaching experience.

ECO 201 – Principles of Macroeconomics

Minimum Requirement: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and at least 18 graduate credit hours in Economics or a closely related field is the minimum requirement.

ECO 202 – Principles of Microeconomics

Minimum Requirement: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and at least 18 graduate credit hours in Economics or a closely related field is the minimum requirement.

ENG 097 – Writer’s Workshop I

Minimum Requirement: Minimum B.A. in English; 2+ years of teaching experience preferred.

ENG 098 – Writer’s Workshop II

Minimum Requirement: Minimum B.A. in English; 2+ years of teaching experience preferred.

The Nursing Department at South Suburban College is seeking part-time adjunct clinical faculty in Fundamentals, Medical-Surgical, Advanced Medical-Surgical, Mental Health and OB/PEDS. Responsibilities for clinical include but is not limited to providing clinical educational experience that is reflective of didactic classroom learning.

Minimum Requirements: Master Degree in Nursing, a minimum of two years experience in education and/or clinical education, and a license in Illinois. An Indiana license would be a plus.

The Basic Nursing Assistant Training Program at South Suburban College is also seeking part-time adjunct faculty.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing.
  •  Current and active Illinois RN license in good standing along with a minimum of two years’ experience teaching in a Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program (theory, laboratory and clinical instruction and evaluation).
  •  Current CPR card (American Heart Association for healthcare workers).
  •  Successfully pass a criminal background check and urine drug screen and other health compliance.
  •  Completion of the IDPH Train-the-Trainer Instructor and Approved Evaluator Certifications with the State of Illinois, within the last 5 years.
  •  Recent experience with providing nursing care for the elderly, chronically ill and patients with Alzheimer’s/dementia.
  •  Computer skills.
  •  Experience with technologies used for instruction.
  •  CNAEA membership encouraged.
