Typically South Suburban College hires a number of adjunct faculty members each semester to teach a variety of courses. All CODING SPECIALIST courses

Minimum Requirements:

  • The faculty must be certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist Physician-based (CCS-P) and must have at minimum, a baccalaureate degree.
  • The faculty must have experience in curriculum development, instructional theory, evaluations, counseling of students, program management and other methods for obtaining student outcomes.
  • Knowledgeable of the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) and AHIMA standards.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree preferred in HIT/HIM.
  • At least three to five (3-5) years experience in teaching on a college level affiliated with an accredited HIT program.
  • Experience with developing didactic and clinical outcomes/curricula on a program and course level.
  • Excellent technology and classroom management skills.
  • Knowledge of the HIT industry needs, which includes active participation in professional organizations.

All SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY courses

Minimum Requirement:

  • Masters in Speech Language Pathology.

Preferred Requirement: 

  • Teaching experience.

All BIOLOGY courses

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelors degree in any of the life sciences.
  • A Master’s degree in Education or any of the life sciences.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master degree preferred.
  • Teaching experience in a high school or community college setting.
  • the ability to teach Microbiology, General Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology.

BLD 101 – Carpentry

Minimum Requirement:

  • Five (5) years minimum experience in framing.

Preferred Requirement:

  • B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 102 – Masonry

Minimum Requirement:

  • Five (5) years minimum experience in concrete and brick work.

Preferred Requirement:

  • B.S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 103 – Home Energy Dynamics

Minimum Requirement:

  • One to three (1-3) years minimum experience in Building Science with some experience in Energy Auditing procedures.

Preferred Requirement:

  • B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 105 – Print Reading

Minimum Requirement:

  • Three (3) years minimum experience.

Preferred Requirement:

  • B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 140 – HVACR I

Minimum Requirement:

  • Five (5) years minimum experience in HVACR installation and repair.
  • Must be EPA certified.

Preferred Requirement:

  • B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 142 – Duct Fabrication and Installation

Minimum Requirement:

  • Five (5) years minimum experience in duct fabrication and installation.

Preferred Requirement:

  • B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 203 – Estimating

Minimum Requirement:

  • Five (5) years minimum experience in construction materials estimating.

  • B. S. and previous teaching experience preferred.

BLD 206 – Materials & Methods IV – Electrical (Residential Wiring)

Minimum Requirement:

  • Five (5) years residential wiring experience.
  • Must be a licensed electrician in Illinois.

  • B. S. and Five (5) years teaching experience in residential wiring.
  • Must be a licensed electrician in Illinois.

All Building Code Classes

Minimum Requirement:

  • ICC certification in field that you are applying for.
  • Five (5) years Code Enforcement experience.

Preferred Requirement:

  • B. S. and Five (5) years teaching experience. Must have ICC certifications.

BCD 106 – Mechanical Inspections

Minimum Requirement:

  • Must be ICC certified in Mechanical Inspections.

Preferred Requirement:

  • B. S. and Five (5) years teaching experience.
  • Must have ICC certification in Mechanical Inspections.

All BARBERING courses

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current Illinois Barber Instructor Certificate required.
  • 2-3 years of barber teaching experience required.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Barber & Cosmetology Instructor Certificates.
  • Experience working with IDFPR.
  • Teaching experience 2-3 years with at least one year in Illinois.
  • Demonstrate ability to use technology in the classroom and barber laboratory.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree.

The Nursing Department at South Suburban College is seeking part-time adjunct clinical faculty in Fundamentals, Medical-Surgical, Advanced Medical-Surgical, Mental Health, and OB/PEDS. Responsibilities for clinical include but are not limited to providing a clinical educational experience that is reflective of didactic classroom learning.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master Degree in Nursing
  • a minimum of two years experience in education and/or clinical education
  • a license in Illinois. An Indiana license would be a plus.

The Basic Nursing Assistant Training Program at South Suburban College is also seeking part-time adjunct faculty.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Current and active Illinois RN license in good standing along with a minimum of two years’ experience teaching in a Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program (theory, laboratory and clinical instruction and evaluation).
  • Current CPR card (American Heart Association for healthcare workers).
  • Successfully pass a criminal background check and urine drug screen and other health compliance.
  • Completion of the IDPH Train-the-Trainer Instructor and Approved Evaluator Certifications with the State of Illinois, within the last 5 years.
  • Recent experience with providing nursing care for the elderly, chronically ill and patients with Alzheimer’s/dementia.
  • Computer skills.
  • Experience with technologies used for instruction.
  • CNAEA membership encouraged.

All READING courses

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Reading or closely related field.
  • Minimum of two years successful teaching experience.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse students.
  • Ability to teach courses in Reading/Study Skills.
  • Familiarity with and ability to use outcomes assessment methods/techniques.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

SOC 101 – Introduction to Sociology

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Sociology or Anthropology or Master’s degree in a related field and 18 hours graduate credit hours in Sociology.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Doctorate degree or admission into a Doctorate Program in Sociology.
  • 4-5 years teaching experience teaching at a community college and clinical experience.

HSA 110- Introduction to American Sign Language

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree with preferred teaching experience.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

State Licensure:

  • Illinois Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission (IDHHC).
  • BEI Certification (Interpreter) or EIPA Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment.
