Description of Position:

  • HOURS: Monday through Thursday: 8:00am – 7:00pm; Friday: 8:00am – 4:00pm.
  • LOCATIONS: SSC Main Campus and Oak Forest Campus.

SSC Peer Mentors serve as a positive social and academic role models to support and encourage students through a smooth transition, acclimation, and a sense of belonging to SSC. Peer Mentors will meet with students individually and in group meetings to facilitate access to information and resources. Wellness and mental health support will be a primary function of the position.


  • Serve as a mental health and wellness advocate for students.
  • Meet with students individually or in groups weekly.
  • Develop and facilitate student presentations and workshops twice a month.
  • Provide referrals to college and community resources.
  • Submit weekly reports documenting mentee interactions/goals/outcomes.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings and program assessments.
  • Engage in college initiatives and events.
  • Support office operations.
  • Adhere to confidentiality expectations according to FERPA.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a SSC student in good academic and conduct standing.
  • Completion of at least 12 credits hours.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Effective organization and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Possess good computer and technology skills including virtual platforms.
  • Knowledge of SSC resources and policies.
  • Successfully pass criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior relevant work experience.
  • Involved in a SSC student club/organization.
  • Completed at least 24 credits hours at SSC.
  • Faculty recommendation.


This is a part time temporary position working up to 20 hours per week. The pay rate is $13 per hour.
