Description of Position:
- HOURS: Monday through Thursday: 8:00am – 7:00pm; Friday: 8:00am – 4:00pm.
- LOCATIONS: SSC Main Campus and Oak Forest Campus.
SSC Peer Mentors serve as a positive social and academic role models to support and encourage students through a smooth transition, acclimation, and a sense of belonging to SSC. Peer Mentors will meet with students individually and in group meetings to facilitate access to information and resources. Wellness and mental health support will be a primary function of the position.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a mental health and wellness advocate for students.
- Meet with students individually or in groups weekly.
- Develop and facilitate student presentations and workshops twice a month.
- Provide referrals to college and community resources.
- Submit weekly reports documenting mentee interactions/goals/outcomes.
- Participate in meetings, trainings and program assessments.
- Engage in college initiatives and events.
- Support office operations.
- Adhere to confidentiality expectations according to FERPA.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a SSC student in good academic and conduct standing.
- Completion of at least 12 credits hours.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Effective organization and ability to meet deadlines.
- Possess good computer and technology skills including virtual platforms.
- Knowledge of SSC resources and policies.
- Successfully pass criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior relevant work experience.
- Involved in a SSC student club/organization.
- Completed at least 24 credits hours at SSC.
- Faculty recommendation.
Status/Salary:
This is a part time temporary position working up to 20 hours per week. The pay rate is $13 per hour.
