Jose “Tony” González— Head Coach
Coach Jose “Tony” González, who will be entering his seventh year as coach at South Suburban, has been chosen to helm the women’s Soccer squad at SSC. During his tenure at the college, the SSC Men’s team has posted a 80-20-6 record, winning 80 percent of games played. Coach González has an extensive playing and coaching experience.
He played collegiate soccer for the UIC Flames and was named Academic All-Conference in 1995 while earning Soccer Student Athlete of the Year in 1997. In 2002 he also served as the top assistant at UIC. González has trained and coached players of all ages and levels. In the summer of 2003 he earned the USSF National “B” license.
Coach González is a 1997 graduate from University of Illinois at Chicago and has a Bachelors of Art in the Teaching of Spanish.

Maria González— Volunteer Assistant Coach
Coach “Marilu” is also the Head Varsity Soccer Coach at Thornwood High School. She has coached players from South Suburban Soccer Academy, Tinley Park Club teams and Northern Illinois University recreational programs. She is licensed with the IYSA.
Maria has been part of the soccer community since 1994 playing for Chicago Latin American Soccer Association throughout Chicago and the suburbs. She has coached players from four years old to young adults.
She is a teacher, and is a graduate from Chicago State University where she earned a B.S. in Physical Education. Coach Marilu also brings experience from her service as a student athletic trainer at NIU.
Maria has received many awards like Major of the Year 2004 and teacher of the month of November 2006. She combines academics and sport to develop students into student athletes.
