Circulation Assistant – Library

Job Description 

The role of the Circulation Assistant is essential to the operations of South Suburban College library. This position is under the supervision of full-time library staff. Applicants who are selected for the position will be expected to support the general operations of the library, while addressing the requests of patrons, and providing exceptional library service. The pay rate is $15/hour, working up to 20 hours/week. Training will be provided.

Job Duties

  1. Assisting with Circulation services and procedures:
    • Checking out books, reserve textbooks, and laptops.
    • Processing the return of all SSC and non-SSC items.
    • Monitoring study room usage.
    • Answering department phone calls and emails.
    • Taking inventory of office items.
  2. Assisting with library upkeep (e.g. cleaning floors, tables, study rooms, computers).
  3. Assisting with departmental projects.
  4. Maintaining library collections:
    • Shelf reading the first floor collections (Reference/Juvenile) and second floor collection (Circulating), as well as the media center collection, as a part of collections upkeep.
  5. Monitoring second floor activity.

Qualifications 

  1. Must have current year FAFSA completed
  2. Must be Federal Work Study Eligible
  3. Must be eligible to work in the United States
  4. Must be currently enrolled at South Suburban College
  5. Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  6. Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
  7. Must be pursuing an approved educational degree or certificate
  8. Evening Availability preferred
  9. Possess strong communication skills
  10. Organized, punctual and reliable

Times of the week FWS students are needed: Evening (12pm – 4pm or 4pm-8pm)
