Summer Bridge/First-Year Experience is a year-long college program focused on providing first-year students with the services and support needed to successfully transition to South Suburban College. Summer Bridge/FYE is offered to provide support and direct contacts for students as they adjust to college. We are providing this program to foster early and often intervention and engagement with services and resources on campus and in the community to help students succeed in college and reach their goals.
This program is for all first time or first year college students who must take two or more of the following preparatory classes:
- ENG 098 or 099
- RDG 081
- MTH 093, 095 or 097
Outcomes/Benchmarks
As a participant in the Summer Bridge/First-Year Experience program, a student will be able to learn how to navigate the college experience and engage with the campus community for optimal support and access to resources to be a successful college student. This includes learning how to use the tools/technology available such as Self Service. Students will have a higher likelihood of successfully completing the first year and beyond to reach academic and professional milestones towards graduation and entry into the workforce.
In addition to the above:
- Students will gain direct access to campus wide initiatives and support services.
- Students will complete preparatory education courses leading to college level credit courses .
- Students will have a positive influence through faculty/staff mentorship.
- Students will participate and engage in co-curricular programs to enhance college experience.
- Students will develop a Master Academic Plan to a path completion of program of study
