Basic Nurse Assistant Training Classes Starting August 10th at South Suburban College

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–The South Suburban College non-credit Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program (CNA) is running a daytime cohort session from August 10th through October 1st at the Oak Forest Center. Successful completion of this non-credit course is required in order to become eligible to take the State of Illinois Nursing Assistant Certification Examination–SSC offers more contact hours for training than traditional CNA programs along with an additional free refresher course prior to this critical certification exam.

Instruction includes basic nursing skills through lecture, campus laboratory and supervised clinical experiences at a long-term health care facility. The classes meet at the Oak Forest Center on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. with lab and clinical instruction rotating on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., respectively. Each individual who successfully passes the certification exam will then be placed on the State Registry for Health Care Workers.

Students must submit a health physical, proof of health insurance or signed release of liability waiver, and completion of a fingerprint criminal history record. The total cost of the program is $1,299.99 which includes tuition, textbook/workbook, stethoscope and blood pressure cuff, gait belt and the cost of the state competency exam upon successful completion of the course. (Financial Aid cannot cover the cost of this program, nor the physical and background check.)

Titled, sealed bids will be received in the Office of Purchasing, Room 2115, at South Suburban College, 15800 S. State Street, South Holland, IL 60473, up to the hour of 10:00 a.m. on August 20, 2015, for the following work: ROOFING REPLACEMENT AND RELATED WORK AT OAK FOREST CAMPUS for SOUTH SUBURBAN COLLEGE. Bids will be opened at that time, or shortly thereafter in the President’s Conference Room. Work will be let under one prime contract, to the lowest responsible bidder.

Plans and Specifications may be obtained on or after August 03, 2015, at the office of the Architect, PLANERA ARCHITECTS 18225 Morris Avenue, Homewood, Illinois, 60430. Contractors wishing to submit proposal are advised to contact the architect prior to picking up plan and specifications. Further, all questions regarding the Plans and Specifications should be provided to the architect prior to the Mandatory Pre-Bid Meeting. The architect may be contacted at 708-747-3600. ALL BIDDERS MUST BE PRE-QUALIFIED. If not pre-qualified, complete A.I.A. Document A-305 (Contractors Qualification Statement) for consideration before picking up Plans & Specifications. A $100.00 deposit is required. Deposit is refundable if a bid is submitted; forfeited if no bid is submitted.

A 10% Bid Bond will be required of all bidders. A 100% Performance Bond and a Labor/Material Bond will be required of the successful bidder, written by a Surety approved by the Owner. Each bid must be accompanied by a bid bond for an amount not less than ten percent (10%) of the total amount of the bid, as a guarantee that the bidder, if awarded the Contract, will furnish a satisfactory performance and payment bond, execute the Contract and proceed with the work. Upon failure to do so, the bidder shall forfeit the amount deposited as liquidated damages and no mistakes or errors on the part of the bidder shall excuse the bidder or entitle him to a return of the aforementioned amount.

A Mandatory Pre-Bid Meeting will be held on August 12, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in the Oak Forest Conference Room 5190, South Suburban College / Oak Forest Campus, 16333 South Kilbourn Avenue, Oak Forest, Illinois, 60452. Bidders will examine the plans and specifications and the location in which said work is to be done and judge for themselves all the circumstances and surrounding conditions affecting the cost and nature of the work, and all bids will be presumed to be based on such examination, familiarity and judgment. Compliance with all requirements of the laws of the State of Illinois shall be mandatory.

These requirements shall include, but are not limited to, payment of the prevailing wage including fringe benefits for labor on the work to be done, the provisions of all State of Illinois and federal laws concerning public works projects, the State of Illinois Human Rights Act, and the regulations of the Illinois Human Rights Commission. The Board of Trustees, Community College District #510, South Holland, Illinois, reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids and award the bid in the manner that best serves the interests of the Owner.

Bulldogs Student-Athletes Earn Transfer Scholarships

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–South Suburban College proudly announces 16 student-athletes from the 2014-15 academic year who have committed to play on scholarship at four-year institutions and universities.

The South Suburban College Bulldogs are a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), offering full tuition scholarships in seven sports: Men’s Basketball, Soccer and Baseball, along with Women’s Basketball, Soccer, Softball and Volleyball. Bulldogs’ student-athletes have enjoyed much success in the classroom and on the playing field over the years. Currently, 73% of SSC student-athletes continue their playing careers at four-year schools. SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–Open Registration for the Fall 2015 Semester at South Suburban College (SSC) is still in progress. Fall classes don’t begin until Monday, August 24th, giving current and prospective students plenty of time to become a student, get any financial aid in order, and choose classes to meet their needs. The college has set a comprehensive open house schedule to further help students make critical choices about their future.

SSC’s upcoming College-Wide Open House–scheduled for August 6th–is the perfect opportunity for first time students to learn about the college’s wide range of programs and services. It will include a variety of tours and demonstrations, and prospective students 18 and over will be entered in an Open House Raffle for a trip for two to any concert of their choice in the Continental U.S. (excluding Multiple Day Festivals), Round Trip Airfare for two, overnight hotel stay and $500 spending cash.
