Free Gun Lock Giveaway and Safety Discussion Hosted at South Suburban College


South Holland, IL – South Suburban College (SSC) Criminal Justice Program, in partnership with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Veterans Affairs, is hosting a Gun Lock Giveaway and Safety Discussion on Thursday, November 21, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at SSC’s Main Campus, located at 15800 S. State Street, South Holland, Illinois. This event is free and open to the public.

This community-focused event aims to promote firearm safety and mental wellness, offering a space for critical discussions on topics such as Mental Wellness and Crisis Intervention Options. Attendees will have the opportunity to receive free gun locks and learn more about safety resources and mental health support options.

SSC Criminal Justice Program Coordinator Becky Walters emphasizes the importance of collaborative safety initiatives. “Our goal is to provide valuable resources and information to enhance safety and well-being in our community,” said Walters. “Through this event, we hope to raise awareness and offer tools for responsible firearm storage and mental health crisis support.”
