South Suburban College to Host Census Informational Sessions

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL– South Suburban College wants everyone in College District 510 to be counted. The college will be hosting informational sessions regarding the 2020 Census at both the Main Campus in South Holland and the Oak Forest Center.

The United States Census counts every resident in the country and takes place every 10 years. SSC has been selected to participate in Census outreach through a grant in conjunction with Cook County and is actively promoting the importance of being counted within its community. This data is highly secure, and by law cannot be shared with immigration or law enforcement agencies or affect government benefits. Among other important reasons for participation, the data is used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities in areas such as transportation, healthcare and affordable housing, to name a few.

SSC will host the informational sessions in March and April for staff, students and the community. Bilingual translators will be available. The sessions are scheduled as follows:

  • Oak Forest Center – March 18 and March 19, 6:00 p.m., Room 5190
  • Main Campus – April 1 and April 22, 12 noon, MB Financial Bank Room

By Census Day, April 1, 2020, households will be invited to participate in the 2020 Census, with options for responding – by mail, online or phone. Visit www.CookCountyIL.gov/Census for more info.

SSC’s Main Campus is located at 15800 South State Street, South Holland, Illinois. The Oak Forest Center is located at 16333 South Kilbourn in Oak Forest.
