August is more than a month on the calendar at South Suburban College. It is an opportunity for our campus community to come together around the values that strengthen relationships, foster understanding, and create a welcoming environment for everyone. As we celebrate Civility Awareness Month, SSC invites students, employees, and community partners to participate in a variety of activities designed to encourage kindness, empathy, inclusion, civic responsibility, and respectful engagement.

Celebrating Civility

At South Suburban College, civility is at the heart of building a supportive learning and working environment. Throughout August, the College will host events and initiatives that inspire meaningful connections and remind us that even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.

30 Days of Kindness Challenge

Throughout the month of August, the SSC community is encouraged to participate in the 30 Days of Kindness Challenge. Daily challenges will be shared the college’s social media platforms, providing simple yet impactful ways to promote civility and strengthen our campus culture.

From welcoming someone new to campus and writing thank-you notes to supporting community organizations and practicing respectful disagreement, each day’s challenge encourages participants to make kindness a daily habit. The challenge concludes with a commitment to continue acts of kindness beyond August, helping to create a lasting culture of respect and compassion at SSC.
