South Suburban College to Host Forklift Operator Training Courses at Oak Forest Center


SOUTH HOLLAND, IL– South Suburban College’s Business & Career Institute is offering Forklift Operator Training in October at the Oak Forest Center. This two-day certification course covers the basic forklift driving skills needed to obtain a Forklift Operator Certification.

The cost for each course is $175.00 per person, or FREE for qualified applicants. The October sessions will be held as follows:

  • Saturday, October 2 & Saturday October 16, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 7 & Friday October 8, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 20 & Thursday 21, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 26 & Wednesday October 27, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The Forklift Operator Certification from the National Safety Council is available through these sessions at SSC for individuals who are looking for new career skills or for employers who are ensuring a safe and compliant workplace. Illinois requires all forklift operators to obtain a license to avoid OSHA sanctions and possible penalties. Forklift driving is no simple matter; it causes more than 100 deaths each year. A Certification Card from the National Safety Council will be issued to the student upon successful completion of the program. The course will enforce social distancing and use of PPEs.

WEI Sponsored Program: The Workforce Equity Initiative (WEI) project is funded through ICCB to support qualified participants through the completion of short-term educational opportunities leading to employment. South Suburban College Announces Dr. Omar Sheriff to Lead Allied Health & Careers Programs into Historic Future


SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–South Suburban College (SSC) announces the hiring of Omar Sheriff, MD, to lead its 12 frontline healthcare programs into a period of significant strategic growth. Dr. Sheriff will report to the Vice President of Academic Services and be responsible for the educational welfare of students and the professional needs of staff within the division. He will also work collaboratively with the VP, program coordinators and faculty to continue to develop and promote programmatic growth and innovation.

Dr. Sheriff earned his MD from Central America Health Sciences University and his MBA in Health Care Management from Purdue University. Dr. Sheriff brings a wide range of experience through his 13-year career in clinical, instructional and leadership roles including Dean of Academic Affairs at Brown Mackie College in Indianapolis, IN, and Allied Health Program Chair at Kaplan College in Hammond, IN. He looks forward to working with the faculty and students in addition to providing leadership for the future advancement of healthcare education at the College.

South Suburban College Providing Options to its Community Comply with State Vax or Test Mandate – UPDATED


SOUTH HOLLAND, IL – In response to Governor JB Pritzker and IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike’s announcement of a new COVID-19 vaccine requirement for higher education personnel and students, South Suburban College (SSC) has set a September 24th deadline for proof of vaccination via www.ssc.edu/c19vax. COVID-19 testing will become a weekly requirement for employees and students who do not comply.

SSC continues to provide both drive-thru COVID-19 testing and Johnson & Johnson vaccinations at no cost. The one dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine is available for individuals ages 18 years and older. Vaccination is available three days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and free testing is available the same days plus Saturday. The drive-thru set up at the College’s Main Campus is located within the Northwest parking lot at 15800 South State Street, South Holland, Illinois.

Beginning Monday, October 25th, the SHIELD Illinois rapid testing program at the Oak Forest Center (OFC) will only be available on Mondays from 7-9 a.m. Testing results are available within 24 hours. To schedule an appointment, a SHIELD Illinois account may be created through Portal.shieldillinois.com using agency code df5brbrj for this location. The OFC is conveniently located near I-57 at 16333 South Kilbourn Avenue, Oak Forest, Illinois.

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL– It’s not too late to get registered for classes at South Suburban College. SSC’s Office of Continuing Education offers a variety of non-credit courses throughout the Fall Semester, with registration open right up to the start of class.

With the wide variety of start dates, class times, course lengths and offerings, students have the flexibility of fitting school around a busy schedule. Some of the programs available include but are not limited to:
