SSC’s Haunted Trails is Tomorrow!


SOUTH HOLLAND, IL – Get ready for a frightfully fun evening! South Suburban College’s Haunted Trails debuts tomorrow, Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 6:00pm, in the Frank M. Zuccarelli Park & Gazebo on the SSC Main Campus (15800 S. State St, South Holland, IL). Sponsored by the SSC Honors and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Programs, this event is open to the public—so grab your family and friends for a spooktacular night in a fun, safe, and family-friendly environment that’s riddled with terror!

Guests can look forward to eerie encounters, a spine-tingling trail, and festive treats, including a delicious cocoa bar and candy bags for everyone to enjoy. Admission is just $5.00 per person, and a completed Waiver of Liability is required for all attendees. Tickets may be purchased online or at the door.

All proceeds from Haunted Trails benefit SSC Foundation Scholarships, supporting student success and educational opportunities across the college community.

South Suburban College Men’s Basketball Ranked #6 in the Nation in Preseason Poll


SOUTH HOLLAND, IL – The South Suburban College (SSC) Men’s Basketball Team has been ranked #6 in the nation in the NJCAA Division II Preseason Poll. The Bulldogs’ 2025–2026 schedule is packed with competition, featuring 10 opponents ranked in the national top 25.

The Bulldogs tip off their season with an exhibition game at home on Monday, November 3rd, against Calumet College of St. Joseph’s Development Team at 7:00 p.m. The regular season opener follows on Saturday, November 8th, when SSC hosts nationally ranked Danville Area Community College at 3:00 p.m.

Now entering his 20th season, Head Coach John Pigatti continues to lead one of the most successful programs in junior college basketball. Under Pigatti’s leadership, the Bulldogs have earned 13 Region IV titles and made history in 2022 as the only undefeated team ever to win a National Championship. The 2024 Bulldogs followed up with a remarkable run as national runners-up.

The 2025–2026 roster is led by returning standouts AJ Abrams (Eisenhower High School), an Honorable Mention All-American, and Samar Bures (Rich Township High School), a First Team All-Region guard. This year’s team also features eight players hailing from Northwest Indiana and the south suburbs of Chicago, continuing SSC’s strong local recruiting tradition.

With national recognition and veteran leadership, the Bulldogs are set to make another exciting run at a championship season.

SSC’s Coach José “Tony” González Honored with Statewide Sportsmanship Award


SOUTH HOLLAND, IL — South Suburban College proudly announces that longtime Head Soccer Coach José “Tony” González has been recognized with the Outstanding Achievement in Sportsmanship Award during Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs’ Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on September 25, 2025.

The annual event commemorates Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring community leaders from across Illinois who have made lasting contributions in their fields. Coach González was celebrated for his decades of dedication, leadership, and positive impact on student-athletes both on and off the field.

González has served as Head Men’s Soccer Coach at SSC since 2000 and as Head Women’s Soccer Coach since 2017. Under his leadership, the SSC Men’s Soccer team has achieved a 292-157-38 record, while the Women’s Soccer team has posted an impressive 86-38-6 record.

“Coach González embodies the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, and community pride,” said Vice President Devon Powell of Student & Enrollment Services. “His recognition at the state level shines a spotlight on the incredible work he has done at SSC for over two decades.”

In addition to his outstanding coaching record, González brings extensive experience as both a player and coach, continuing to inspire generations of student-athletes.
